Description: The black-and-white footage by Ernst Hirsch documents the completion of the external reconstruction work on the Zwinger, which was destroyed in the air raids on Dresden in 1945. The film goes into detail about the restoration of paintings damaged by wartime storage, shows the state chairwoman of the Kulturbund Ruth Seydewitz in front of the painting "Der Zinsgroschen" by Titian, and accompanies the sinking of a time capsule on the Zwinger's rampart pavilion in 1963 as well as filming for presumably a television program in which the reconstructed Zwinger is the backdrop for a ballet and opera performance. Ernst Hirsch also creates references to the destroyed building ensemble with photographs of historical copperplate engravings from a manuscript by Zwinger master builder Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann.
This film was digitized as part of the model project "Sicherung des audiovisuellen Erbes in Sachsen" (Securing Audiovisual Heritage in Saxony) of the Film Association of Saxony (2018) in cooperation with: Hirsch Film Filmproduktion, Sächsische Landesbibliothek - Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek, funded by: Saxon State Ministry for Science and Art.
